No stranger to technology companies, Bruce has held numerous senior consulting and executive positions with major semiconductor and silicon photonics companies and has over 35 years of experience in the semiconductor industry. Most recently, he was the COO of Coriant Advanced Technology, LLC (Silicon Photonics). He was also the President of Capella Photonics, Inc. (manufacturer of wavelength selective optical switches), CEO of Silterra Malaysia Sdn Bhd (a semiconductor foundry), President/COO and acting CEO of Xicor, Inc., and prior to Xicor, he had worked at National Semiconductor Corporation for over 25 years, where his last position was Managing Director of the Advanced Technology Group in Santa Clara, CA. Bruce previously held Board member appointments at Silterra Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Atlantic Quantum Sdn Bhd, Xicor, Inc., and Redwood Microsystems, Inc.
Bruce has a B.S. degree in Materials Science from the Mass. Institute of Technology (MIT) and has also received extensive executive management and business training from the Sloan Business School at MIT, Caltech and Western Business School. Bruce was the inventor or co-inventor of three U.S. patents and he received the Semiconductor International “Process Patent of the Year” award. In addition, he was the first Vice President of Manufacturing Operations at SEMATECH in Austin, Texas.
Chief Financial Officer
Randy began his career in public accounting at PriceWaterhouse performing audit and tax work for manufacturing clients. His ties to manufacturing grew strong as he became intimately involved with companies making a variety of products across a number of industries. He has experience in process and job shop, heavy fabrication to light assembly, high-tech and low-tech and with varying degrees of engineering and manufacturing value add.
Over three decades, he has gained deep experience in private as well as public companies, most often mid-cap in size. In 1991 he became the CFO of LaserMaster Technologies, a high-tech manufacturer traded on the NASDAQ and went on to work for business units within United Technologies Corporation for over a decade. During his time at UTC he gained broadening experience as SVP of Sales and Marketing, BU General Manager and was promoted to Group CFO. At TSI he is responsible for Finance, IT, Purchasing and Human Resources.
Randy earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and a Masters of Business from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. He is licensed as a Certified Public Accountant.
Senior Vice President, TDCS & Corporate Strategy
Wilbur Catabay is a veteran of the semiconductor industry with more than 25 years of experience. Recently, Mr. Catabay was VP of Technology at SVTC Technologies and prior President of Silicon Integrated Solutions, Inc., providing Engineering Services for Device and Process Integration. He also was Senior Director for LSI Logic’s Foundry Engineering & Integration organization and Director of the Advanced Process Module Development in the R&D organization. He was responsible for evaluating and developing advanced material research for CMOS transistors and advanced metal interconnect technology.
Mr. Catabay also worked with design and manufacturing organizations as the focal point for implementation of new process module technology from 130nm to 45nm CMOS technology nodes. In 1991, he was an assignee of the technical staff at SEMATECH. Mr. Catabay has submitted more than 100 invention disclosures and has been awarded more than 65 patents with patents pending during his tenure with LSI Logic and SVTC Technologies. He has published more than 50 technical articles in professional journals and presented at various technical conferences. In addition, he was the Patent Liaison and Inventor of the year at LSI Logic and currently serves as a board member/technical advisor for several technology firms. He attended San Jose State University in Industrial Technology with Business Management. During his spare time, Wilbur enjoys spending time with his family, including fishing and photographing nature.
Vice President, Manufacturing
Hired off the UC Berkeley campus by NEC Electronics in Northern California, Gabe Kim is one of our longest-tenured employees. Tracing his professional roots back to when he was a Process Engineer, Gabe quickly demonstrated his technical and leadership talents moving up the management ranks, all the way to Plant Manager for NEC and Renesas Electronics’ Roseville Manufacturing Facility.
As Vice President of Manufacturing for TSI, Gabe has responsibility for the site’s 24/7 Quality, Production Operations, and Process, Equipment and Facilities Engineering functions. Gabe transferred to our Roseville campus when it opened in 1984 as a 5” fab and has been an integral contributor to its longevity, success, technology growth, and uninterrupted operations.
Outside of work, Gabe is an accomplished golfer, and a marathon and ultra-marathon enthusiast.
Gabe earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from UC Berkeley and a Masters in Business Administration from UC Davis.
Vice President, Technology Development
Joe began his career in the semiconductor industry in 1983 on the equipment engineering side of wafer manufacturing. Over the course of the next 16 years, Joe worked in various engineering departments covering equipment and device positions supporting wafer manufacturing and process development for integrated device manufacturers such as Synertek, TRW, Raytheon, and Applied Micro Circuits.
In 1998, Joe joined Atmel’s NVM technology development group as senior manager of their Device & Modeling engineering team. One notable achievement at Atmel was Joe’s success in the development of a robust Production and TD engineering e-test program. Joe then joined Silicon Laboratories in 2006, a fabless company, where he supported all foundry business & technical activities for the MCU – embedded mixed signal division. While there, Joe lead efforts in the development of a low mask count memory (flash) process which significantly lowered manufacturing cost and cycle time.
Joe joined TSI Semiconductors in 2011 and proceeded to set up the foundry process support and design enablement teams. Since joining TSI, Joe has spearheaded the development of 0.25um BCD process PDK and is actively engaged as the technology leader in the development of a high performance new technology node (0.18um). Beyond those accomplishments, Joe has supported mass production products run on BCD, flash, logic & mixed signal/RF from 0.8um to 55nm. Today, he manages the key technical teams – Process Integration, CAD, Customer Support, Device Modeling, Layout, and PDK development.
Joe earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, San Diego and his Masters of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Colorado Technical University, in Colorado Springs.
